It’s officially time to get outside and take advantage of the many outdoor activities available in Chicago every summer. And, while the list of possibilities is so large it can seem intimidating, here are some of our favorites:
- Check out The 606 Trail.
The 606 Trail, which finally opened in June, offers 2.7 miles of elevated track running along the city and connecting Chicago’s West Side to the North Loop. Four of the parks adjoining The 606 are also now open and ready for visitors. - Take a kayak architectural tour.
Most Chicagoans are already familiar with the city’s architecture, but a kayak tour on the Chicago River can offer some new perspectives of the architectural classics, and provide some exercise to boot. - Attend Lollapalooza.
Say what you will about the festival’s shifting demographic (attendees seem to be getting younger and younger every year), but Lollapalooza has by now become a firm part of Chicago’s summer DNA. This year’s headliners are Sir Paul McCartney, Metallica, and Florence+The Machine. - Go to North Avenue Beach.
Chicago has over 20 different beaches, but everyone knows that North Avenue draws the biggest crowds and has the best accommodations. The downside: it tends to get too packed on the weekends, so it’s best to go early in the day.
