Just bought a new condo? Congratulations! In the first year of owning your condo, you’ll want to take care of these 4 items.
- Change the locks
Even if the previous owners turn over their sets of keys, you can never actually be sure who else has a key to your new home. So, the simplest solution is to change the locks as soon as you get in. That way, you can be sure you’re the only one with access.
- Energy savings
Moving into a new space is a great opportunity to evaluate your needs and do some optimizations to save energy and lower your utility bills. Does the condo have fans you can utilize in addition to the AC in the summer? Are CFL or LED lights installed throughout the home?
- Put together a home maintenance to-do list
You’re a homeowner now, which means you get to work on a slew of exciting projects. As you settle into your new condo, go room by room and make a list of all the items that need to be repaired, updated, or that you simply want changed. Putting the items in list form will let you prioritize and will ease your anxiety about the many things you’ll have to do.
- Attend your association meetings
It’s a great habit to get into, so you might as well start doing it from the start. Association meetings will allow you to meet your neighbors, learn about new issues with the building, and let you cast your valuable vote on these issues.
These are only a few of the items you’ll have to tackle as a new homeowner, but they’re certainly a great start.
