Can you feel it? Spring is on the calendar and almost in the air. There’s a reason why we do spring-cleaning. As our minds and bodies come out of winter hibernation, our homes and buildings need care and maintenance to transition out of the cold and into the warmer months.
Several maintenance tasks are helpful to tackle in the spring to get your building refreshed and renewed after winter.
First thing you want to check is your HVAC unit. After winter and the steady use of heat (and continued use into spring, who are we kidding?) the HVAC should be checked for repairs, leaks, and cracks. Additionally, you don’t want to wait until it’s sweltering hot to know your air conditioning portion of the HVAC isn’t working. A routine service check will ensure you stay cool this summer. Don’t forget, spring is also a good time to change those filters. If you have a fireplace, make sure to schedule a chimney cleaning now as well.
When the weather warms, it’s a good time to check dryer vents for proper ventilation. Remember this area is warm and it’s not unlikely that a small critter may have found his way in to stay warm for the winter. Accumulation of lint needs to be cleaned to prevent a dryer fire.
Spring is a good time to vacuum your refrigerator coils. An often-neglected chore, keeping your coils clean will help your fridge run more efficiently.
Finally, don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Giving your home a spring spruce up will help prevent maintenance issues.
