Chicago summer is in full swing, and August is no different, with more events lined up than you’d know what to do with. Here are just 5 things of the seemingly endless things to do this weekend in Chicago:
Chicago Air and Water Show
When: August 15 – 16
Where: North Avenue Beach, 1600 North Lake Shore Drive
Cost: Free
The annual Chicago Air & Water Show features daredevil pilots, parachute teams, and jets flying in formation, plus water-skiing and boat jumping. The best views will be from the waterfront near North Avenue Beach.
Nerdy Comedy
When: August 13 – 16
Where: Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave.
Cost: $10-15
If you love comedy about nerdy subjects like the Twilight Zone, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Jane Austen, and Star Trek, NerdFest will be sure to get you laughing at Stage 773.
Cuban Festival
When: August 14 – 16
Where: Riis Park, 6100 W Fullerton Ave.
Cost: $20
Festival Cubano promises Cuban music, Latin American food, vendors, and a kids’ area in Riis Park at Narragansett Ave. & Fullerton Ave.
Oak Park Beer Tasting
When: August 15
Where: 100 N Marion St., Oak Park
Cost: $50
Oak Park Micro Brew Review features tastings of 200 craft beers from 70 Midwest microbreweries and local restaurant food from various Oak Park establishments.
Open-Air Opera
When: August 15, 7:30pm
Where: Ravinia Pavillion, 200 Ravinia Park Rd, Highland Park
Cost: $15-25
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform The Flying Dutchman by Wagner with opera stars at Ravinia Pavilion in Highland Park.
With this many things to do, it would be a shame to stay indoors this weekend. Get out there and take advantage of Chicago’s all-too-short summer!
